Flow Straighteners & Conditioners

Straightening Vanes & Flow Conditioners :

Straightening vanes and flow conditioners are used to condition the flow of the gas before the meter. Typically used in some turbo-meter applications, the straightening vanes meet the recommended dimensions of the AGA turbo-meter installation guide. The flow conditioners are used in extreme cases and almost always are used with large multi-path ultrasonic meters.

Mechasol manufactures several type of flow conditioners designed to ensure constant flow meters performance.

Mechasol flow conditioners are equipped with top hat cross-plate straightening vanes which ensure a fail-safe design with a superior flow profile correction. The standard design is a removable cross-plate straightening vane which is inserted in a 7D or 10D long upstream spool piece.

Our cross-plate straightening vane design is more efficient than bundle tube design to eliminate swirls while keeping a much lower pressure drop.

Flow Conditioning Plates & Meter Mounts:

For applications where existing piping is not ideal for flow measurement, Mechasol offers Flow Conditioning Plates. These Flow Conditioning Plates are available individually or can be combined into pipe sections with meter mounts to further simplify difficult installations.

By incorporating a Flow Conditioning Plate into the system, a significant reduction in required straight run is achieved. In ideal pipe flow, viscous forces tend to create drag along the walls slowing the local fluid velocity more then at the center of the pipe. Consequently for Reynolds Numbers above several thousand, a theoretical velocity profile approximating a flattened parabola is assumed. In non-ideal situations; elbows, valves, and other fittings can generate a non-asymmetrical profile in addition to swirl and pulsation issues. In order to "correct" these anomalies, a strategically tailored flow restriction is needed. Starting with a traditional perforated plate, we adjust the hole size and placement such that the center flow is less restricted than the near wall flow. The resultant is a stabilized flow condition with a more ideal flow profile. ASME, ANSI,EN and other construction standards are followed to assure system integrity.
